Herschel and Planck launch update

The verification of operations procedures for Herschel and Planck at ESA’s European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) has now positively concluded. However, during final checks on the spacecraft, concerns have arisen and a short delay is proposed in order to allow ESA and Arianespace to carry out a final and independent check of the safety margins. Therefore, the final decision on the date of the Herschel and Planck launch will be postponed by a few days.

Indian space shuttle takes shape

An Indian version of the space shuttle will be test-flown from the spaceport at Sriharikota in a year's time. The Reusable Launch Vehicle-Technology Demonstrator, as it is called, will be a combination rocket-aircraft: the aircraft with a winged body, which is the RLV, will sit vertically on the rocket.

Atlas launch rescheduled for Friday

The launch a military communications satellite on an Atlas 5 has been
rescheduled for Friday after engineers replaced a leaking valve in the
rocket’s upper stage. The Atlas 5 is now scheduled for launch at 8:31 pm EDT
Friday (0031 GMT Saturday) from Cape Canaveral to place the Wideband Global
Satcom SV-2 spacecraft into GEO.
