Spring Meeting Update

IAF Spring Meeting

22 March 2010 - 25 March 2010

Since 1996 the IAF has been organising focused symposia on specific topics of current interest to complement the more all-inclusive annual International Astronautical Congress.

Alongside the special events, the International Programme Committee (IPC) and other committees have traditionally met in Paris during the Spring Meeting.

During the IPC meetings, we offer members and other invited participants, an update on current space activities. This year, guest speakers will provide a science update.

Last year's event featured a Science Update featuring the COROT planet-hunting mission, a lecture in the context of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 and a report of the successes of ISRO’s Chandrayaan mission to the Moon.

We are in the process of finalising the programme for 2010 which will feature a similar calibre of speakers.

Alongside the many other events, during the Spring Meeting, the IAF Subcommittee on the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) has organised a Workshop entitled SPACE SENSORS FOR CLIMATE MONITORING.

This all-day event will be held at UNESCO, Paris on 23 March and features participation from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites, the United Nations Framework Commission on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), the Intergovernmental Ocean Commission (IOC), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and UNESCO.
