A seminar (to be held in French) will take place in Paris on 1 December 2009. Entitled "Human Spaceflight: a priority for Europe tomorrow?" will address the topic of the strategical stakes of human spaceflight versus the needs of the European citizen.

The event is organised by IAF members the International Space University and the European Space Agency.

Different angles to be discussed are:

  • Implications of human spaceflight for European society and citizens
  • Implications of human spaceflight for space activities
  • Human spaceflight in numbers: Budget, jobs, and technical capabilities
  • The possible scenarios in Europe over the next 20 year period
  • Recent political orientations, and their implications

Guest speakers include:

  • Jean-Pierre Haigneré, former Astronaut and former head of the Corps of European Astronauts, ESA
  • Alain Wagner, Director of the Strategy Dept., EADS ASTRIUM
  • Fernando Doblas, Head of the Communication Dept., ESA
  • Nassim Bovet, Head of Admissions, International Space University (ISU)
  • Piero Messina, Head of the coordination bureau for human spaceflight, ESA
  • Jacques Arnould, Philosopher and researcher, CNES
